Safety Manager (USA Trucking Industry)
Location: Belgrade, Serbia (On-site only, no remote work)
A fast-growing, stability-driven transportation company operating in the US market is looking for a Safety Manager to lead and elevate our safety operations.
We are seeking a strong leader with hands-on industry expertise who can balance compliance, operational oversight, and team leadership, while driving performance and accountability across the department.
Key Requirements
Minimum 2 years of experience in the US trucking industry, including: At least 1 year in a Safety role (Safety Officer / Safety Specialist / Safety Manager)
OR a combination of 1 year Safety + 1 year Dispatch experience
Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance, and safety standards
Proven leadership and team management capabilities
Experience working with safety software tools (e.g., Samsara, Motive, ProTransport, etc.)
Fluent English (written and spoken)
Core Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
Build an inspiring work environment based on transparency and open communication
Set clear goals, KPIs, and expectations for the safety team
Delegate tasks effectively and ensure timely execution
Monitor team performance through metrics, reporting, and analytics
Provide structured formal and informal feedback, coaching, and development
Identify high performers and promote a culture of recognition and growth
Resolve conflicts objectively and maintain strong interpersonal dynamics within and across teams
Collaborate with HR on team development, succession planning, and workforce optimization
Drive company culture and ensure alignment with internal policies and procedures
Safety Operations & Compliance
Oversee driver qualification processes, background checks, and employment verification
Manage DOT compliance, driver files, and annual MVR checks
Handle Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and testing program administration
Monitor and maintain FMCSA safety scores and implement improvement strategies
Track and analyze DOT inspections, violations, and accident reports
Manage post-accident procedures, including testing, documentation, and reporting
Ensure accurate and up-to-date data in systems such as FMCSA Portal, ProTransport, or similar tools
Conduct daily reviews of unreported incidents and inspections
Fleet, Permits & Documentation
Oversee vehicle compliance: registrations, insurance, inspections
Manage IRP, IFTA, and Form 2290 (Highway Use Tax)
Handle permits (NY, KY, NM, OR, etc.) and specialized transport documentation (e.g., alcohol permits)
Administer toll systems such as PrePass and I-Pass
Coordinate DOT, IFTA, and insurance audits, ensuring full documentation readiness
Monitoring & Risk Prevention
Monitor driver behavior via telematics systems (e.g., Samsara AI cameras, GPS tracking)
Identify unsafe patterns and implement preventive and corrective actions
Support drivers in high-risk situations through real-time coordination
Ensure proper functioning of safety equipment and onboard systems
Challenge unjust violations and submit corrections to protect company safety score
Claims & Incident Management
Manage insurance policies: auto liability, cargo, physical damage, workers’ comp
Handle claims, disputes, and communication with insurers and legal representatives
Assist in accident resolution and violation mitigation
Coordinate legal actions when necessary to protect company interests
